Impact Of Social Media On Fashion Industry

In 1997, social media was born with the Six Degrees website. Users could create profiles on this site and add friends. By 2000, social media had grown as more and more people used chat rooms to meet new people, discuss various topics, and make new friends. In 2003, social media grew and attracted more users after the launch of Myspace. This led to the creations of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. With its wide accessibility, social media is influencing and helping to develop many different industries. Social media helped to boost the profits and promote 3 trillion-dollars worth of fashion products. Although social media’s impact on fashion may seem positive at first glance, it is responsible for the destruction of many businesses and violence in some instances. This essay will cover the social proofing of fashion, models chosen, false advertisements, racism and social media’s impact on the industry.

In order to complete this project, I used various sources online including BBC news articles and Adweek. British Fashion Council is a non-profit organization founded in 1983 that aims to advance the interests and designer businesses of British Fashion by sharing collective experience, knowledge and resources.

Social proofing can be a powerful tool for boosting profits in many businesses. People assume that others are acting correctly in a certain situation. This is known as social proofing. Fashion is about visuals and aesthetics, so it is important for anyone in the industry to stay on top of trends. This includes designers and models.
